The Kansas State Wildcats football program began play in 1893, and has competed in the Big 12 Conference since 1996. The Wildcats have an all-time record of 561-667-41, but have had some stretches of success in their history.
The Wildcats' most successful era came under head coach Bill Snyder, who led the team from 1989 to 2005 and again from 2009 to 2018. During his two stints at Kansas State, Snyder won two Big 12 championships (2003 and 2012) and led the Wildcats to 11 bowl games. He also coached the Wildcats to a #1 national ranking in 1998.
Other notable Kansas State football coaches include Mike Ahearn (who led the Wildcats to two conference championships in 1909 and 1910) and Guy Lowman (who led the Wildcats to a conference championship in 1912).
The Wildcats have had several notable players over the years, including:
- Darren Sproles (three-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion)
- Jordy Nelson (two-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion)
- Tyler Lockett (Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion)
- Collin Klein (Heisman Trophy runner-up in 2012)
- Michael Bishop (two-time All-American who played for the Green Bay Packers)
